Wood flooring is aesthetically pleasing, easy to install and includes natural patterns that add an element of warmth and richness to the overall look of interiors.

Since wood flooring is available in many options, the INVESTA Real Estate team presents you with the characteristics of each type of wood flooring to find out which one is the most suitable for your home.

Laminate floor

Laminate flooring is a synthetic flooring material that actually looks a lot like wood flooring. More specifically, laminate floors are made from real wood that has been recycled into high-pressure particleboard (HDF). Our kitchen cabinets are made from the same material that laminate floors are made of. This type of flooring is very affordable - it replicates the look of real wood and is easy to maintain. However, the main disadvantage of laminated wood flooring is that it has a limited lifespan and can swell when wet. Once the floor is damaged, it cannot be repaired and must be replaced.

Solid wood floor

Solid wood floorboards consist of a piece of wood 18 to 20 mm thick. It has a classic charm that never goes out of style, is long-lasting and can be periodically sanded and polished to restore its original appearance. The disadvantage is that it is very expensive, has a tendency to expand in wet ambient conditions and shrink in dry ones. Some of the most popular types of wood used for hardwood floors include oak, maple, cherry, walnut, and mahogany.

Synthetic wood floor

Synthetic wood flooring is very durable and offers good moisture and scratch resistance. This type of floor is manufactured from the factory with chemical synthetics and protective coatings. Another advantage is that since it has a top layer of real wood veneer, it can be sanded and polished periodically to maintain its appearance. Therefore, composite wood flooring is a great alternative to solid wood flooring as it is comparatively cheaper and easier to maintain.

Parquet floors

This is a wooden floor that can be made from both solid wood and engineered wood. It includes small strips of wood used to create various patterns such as basket weave, herringbone and other geometric designs that effortlessly enhance the beauty of interiors.

Bamboo floors

Bamboo is an extremely sustainable material because it grows comparatively much faster than hardwood trees. Bamboo floorboards are made by compressing bamboo fibers under high temperature and pressure. This material is inherently moisture resistant, so it inhibits mold growth. Although bamboo is a form of plant, larger bamboos are known as bamboo trees because of their appearance.

Cork floors

This is made from oak bark and is manufactured in the form of multi-layer tiles where the bottom layer includes pressed cork, the middle layer is made of MDF or HDF fibers and the top is made of good quality cork. This flooring material has a soft underlay, provides good thermal and sound insulation and is a natural antimicrobial material that is resistant to mold and other pathogens. Also, cork flooring is environmentally friendly and highly sustainable.
