How to correctly calculate the ideal TV size for your space
  • Το ιδανικό μέγεθος τηλεόρασης για τον χώρο σας
When it comes to choosing a new TV, size does matter. You might not realize it, but size can affect how well the TV fits in your space, as well as picture and sound quality. Personal preferences also play a role. While some people may want a smaller, more basic option, others may want large, state-of-the-art screens.

Because we've been in the process of choosing the right size and done a lot of research, we've taken certain factors into account to help you and simplify the buying process.

Will it fit perfectly in the space you want?

Before you start shopping, you should decide where you want your TV to be located. After choosing the location, measure the height, width and depth of that spot. There may be limitations due to the size of a particular device or wall space (corners, drywall, etc.). Later, when you choose it, you can combine it with the measurements of the entire TV, not just the screen size, to make sure it will fit. You'll find that some TVs have footprints that are naturally larger than others of the same screen size, so always look at the overall dimensions to see if it will fit in the available space.

How big is the mounting point?

The second issue related to size is where to place the TV. If you're not going to mount it on a wall, this will play a big role in the space it takes up on your special table since many newer TVs have legs on the ends rather than in the center. You need to make sure that the place where you plan to place the TV is wide enough to fit. You should also be strict in this choice. Often, people think it's safe to let the corners stick out, forgetting that it's designed to rest on a flat surface. If you don't, even a little wind could send your beloved device to the floor.

How far apart should you sit?

You should consider where you will sit in relation to the TV. There are automatic distance calculators that suggest a screen size based on where you sit. If you don't want to bother with such a calculation, there's a simplified calculation you can do to work it out yourself: Measure the distance from your seat to the TV in inches and multiply by 0.84. This will give you the ideal screen size.

This method is not always perfect. For example, if you sit 8 meters from the TV, the calculation requires an 80-inch screen, and this is unrealistic for most of us. Most living rooms will do best with a screen size of at least 50 inches and, of course, personal preference as well as style will play a large part in your decision. In the attached photo there is the general rule of distance - size recommended by almost all monitor manufacturing companies.

Size vs. Quality

If you're trying to maximize screen size on a budget, you'll have to sacrifice image quality. Therefore, we would recommend - according to our comprehensive TV buying guide - to strike a balance between the two factors for long-term enjoyment. So instead of going for that huge 65-inch 4K TV from an up-and-coming brand off the shelves at a low price tag, consider going for the immediately smaller inch model in better picture quality. Chances are, if it has much better picture quality, it will result in a much more immersive viewing experience.
