Know the orientation of your house!
Do you know the orientation of your house?

There are many reasons to know the orientation of the house you want to buy or even rent. By knowing him, you can use the materials in your property intelligently, saving energy and properly distributing the rooms in your space.

There are four orientations and it depends on what the facade of the respective property "sees". So if it faces North you are considered a northerner, while if it faces South it is southerner and so on.

There are three ways to find out the orientation of your house: 1) using a compass, 2) looking at the land registry documents, and 3) from Google maps.

Compass

You can use the classic compass with the needle, it is important to remember that this compass always points to the North and accordingly determine the direction of your house. However, with the development of technology today, things are even easier as all mobiles have a built-in compass in the apps, which adjusts and shows the orientation directly depending on where we are looking.

Land registry

That's where your house plans are, it's important to remember that any property plans always face North. Remember that North is up, South is down, or East is on the right and West is on the left.

Google Maps

A final way to know the orientation of your home is to refer to google maps where you can have a map with a compass. Just search for your home address, set the map viewer to point North (press the red/white compass symbol on the top right to point North on the map) and depending on where they are the North infers the orientation for your house as explained above.

Now that you know your home's orientation, let's see which one is best based on some key features and what needs each best serves.

South orientation

South orientation is a popular choice in places with cold climates because the sun hits the house most of the day and for a large part of the year. Thus, you will reduce heating consumption and have a warm and cozy home.

North orientation

North-facing houses are considered among the coldest properties and are preferred in very hot climates as they provide shade and coolness.

East orientation

The eastern orientation offers limited access of the sun to the house in the morning hours, so most of the day the house does not see the sun. However, from midday to afternoon the sun hits the back west side where the bedrooms of the house are usually located.

Western orientation

In the west orientation, the sun comes out from the back side of the house, i.e. from where the bedrooms are located, and during the day from noon to the afternoon it sees the facade of the house. It is an ideal choice for sun lovers and ensures energy as it absorbs the sun's heat for several hours of the day.

From now on, you can know the orientation of your house, and decide before buying or renting your house which orientation is preferred.
