The way is opened for the installation of photovoltaics in apartment buildings
The installation of photovoltaics in apartment buildings is “unlocked” by legislative regulation. The Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Aristotelis Aivaliotis, spoke on the ERTNews program “Connections” on the subject.

According to the new regulation, the installation of photovoltaics in apartment buildings will be easier, as the consent of only 51% of the co-owners of each apartment building is now required, instead of the 100% that was provided for in the framework that was in force until today.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Energy emphasized that the new regulation aims to make the process easier. “The regulations for the installation of photovoltaics, as they have been legislated, provide that up to 40% of the surface can be covered with photovoltaics, because there must also be space for other uses,” he said.

At the same time, he stated that the installation of photovoltaics helps in energy saving, so that the electricity produced by the photovoltaic can be used instead of the electricity from the grid, the so-called self-consumption.

Nevertheless, the apartment building manager, Fotis Bellos, also spoke to ERTNews, and emphasized that there are also negative reactions, mainly due to the lack of space.

As he stated, most of the rooftops of Athens are full of solar panels, which makes it difficult to install photovoltaics. At the same time, the owners, as he stated, are usually elderly, either foreigners or young people who are away and have rented out their apartments.

Therefore, because tenants cannot vote at the general meeting and communication between owners is difficult, there are misgivings.
